EcoRiders Prove They're Eco-Heroes!

We are proud to announce that Revere's EcoRiders team has been awarded $5,000 through the LAUSD HEROES for Zero Contest for their outstanding efforts in promoting sustainability and energy conservation on our campus!

The HEROES for Zero program challenges students to help make schools "Zero Net Energy Ready" by reducing energy consumption, maximizing energy efficiency, and educating others about sustainable practices.

Revere's campaign was a student-led initiative created by Mr. Matsu's Exploratory Design Elective that encouraged students and staff to become "heroes" by reducing unnecessary energy use and work toward "zero" wasted electricity.

Throughout the year, our EcoRiders demonstrated leadership, creativity, and a commitment to environmental stewardship through several initiatives. A major component was the "Lights Out!" campaign, where students encouraged all classrooms to turn off lights and rely solely on natural light during 5th period.

Students created reminders, monitored participation, and spread awareness about how small daily actions can reduce energy consumption.

Students also made weekly PA Announcements highlighting conservation initiatives, renewable energy projects, and environmental programs, and hosted Homeroom Assemblies where they presented practical ways students and families could conserve energy both at school and at home, covering strategies like unplugging unused devices, limiting water waste, and being mindful of heating and cooling usage.

The campaign also incorporated a meaningful cross-curricular connection to Black History Month, recognizing the achievements of Black scientists, engineers, inventors, and environmental leaders whose innovations have positively impacted STEM and sustainability fields.

On Friday, June 5, the EcoRiders were recognized at the LAUSD Board Meeting, and were honored for their hard work and dedication. This $5,000 award will support future sustainability projects on campus and help continue Revere's efforts to create a greener, more environmentally responsible school community.

Please join us in congratulating the EcoRiders on this incredible achievement! Their work serves as an inspiration to all of us and demonstrates how students can make a meaningful impact on their school and the environment.
