Botanical Name: Chorisia speciosa

Location: Front of school, West of counseling office

Plant Type: Evergreen and part deciduous; leaves fall off in Autumn

Sunset Zones: 12-24, H1, H2

Sun Requirements: Full-moderate Sun

Water Requirements: Moderate water. Not as much in the winter.

Origin: Argentina and Brazil
 
Description: Grows to 30-60 feet. Grows 12-24 inches each season. Bark is  green/light gray and has spikes, around an inch long. The trunk is oval/rounded. Grows best in sandy soil. Fruit is inedible. Name Chorisia Speciosa is named after Ludwig Choris, who was an artist who sailed around the world.

Leaves: Palmate light green

Flowers: Bloom in Fall/Winter. Range from pink, maroon, purple, or rose

Fruit: Large green capsules, avocado-sized. The fruit has white, stringy fuzz contained in the capsule.
