Revere's Admin Team Presentation for New Families

well hello I want to thank everyone for coming we're going to get started so we can respect everyone time so welcome to Paul Revere family tonight we're going to have information night and I want to introduce those here with us today we have Anna's Barbershop our magnet coordinator we have Mr shebada or head counselor we have Mr correct our assistant principal over attendance and we have Mr Evans our assistant principal over discipline next line so on our agenda today we have some things are going to talk about which include our daily schedule we're going to briefly go over the Strategic plan for leusd drop off magnet program school expectations special education and information from the counseling office do drop off and pick up campus opens at 7 a.m. and students can be dropped off in the Horseshoe driveway that's in front of school or along the west driveway campus is locked until this message we are closed camp obviously for safety reasons the West driveway remains closed until 15 minutes after dismissal so Monday Wednesdays and Fridays that'll be a 3:30 and Tuesdays and Thursday approximately 2:30 p.m. the Horseshoe driveway will remain closed until 10 minutes after dismissal Monday Wednesday Friday that's about 3:25 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:25 p.m. and this is all for safety reasons to ensure our students can make it to the buses they fully so also please be respectful of our community don't park illegally or block driveway or have your kids run across the street is so dangerous don't put their lives at risk dr. Anthony before he moved to the next side if anybody has any questions during the presentation if you can click on that cue enabled and put your questions in that human a I see you a couple of people are raising hand will be monitoring that cumin a so please make sure you put your questions there and we will address them as they come up thank you thank you Pastor so are LAUSD strategic plan so how can we work together to elevate our students do it academic success develop social emotional resiliency and embrace the joy of a positive and fulfilling School experience this is our purpose and the question that the district Aunt asked of a what are strategic plan part of our purpose is to outline a high-level Vision serve as a blueprint to inform action create an alignment across the district and identify the steps we can all take to ensure students except so how will we measure success to our powerful District Goldie's those establish the philosophy on the primary areas of success around which we must organize to ensure our students are ready for the world most importantly these those germs to build greater alignment on how to best meet the needs of our students so post-secondary we want to increase College and Career Readiness to 70% by June 26th literacy we want to increase student proficiency average by 30 points between 2022 to 2026 numeracy we want to increase the student proficiency average by 40 points between 2022 to 2026 and social emotional Wellness we want to increase social emotional learning competencies by 8% by June 2026 so what does that mean if the competencies are growth mindset self-advocacy and self-management and social awareness so our pillars there are five pillars in our pillows represent critical integrated Focus areas for the next four years and it will also provide exceptional educational program for students so we have five pillars academic Excellence join engagement and collaboration operational effectiveness and investing in staff so our pillars. All are all broken down into priority as you can see him Valerie all of them but academic Excellence is definitely a focus having high-quality instruction and eliminating opportunity Gap as well as Joy & Wellness in outstanding attendance is a big Focus for the district this year as well in addition to our pillars we have every school safe a blueprint for safety and so LAUSD is committed to providing every student our district with a safe learning environment as a part of the every school has a blueprint for safety throughout the school year students will be talked to help recognize concerned and how to ask for help some of the topics as you can see are inappropriate interactions growing awareness suicide awareness prevention substance abuse and Sentinel School violence prevention cybersecurity and online digital growing awareness I'll hand it off now from Miss Marvel shop hi everybody thanks for coming tonight happy to be here just a little information about our magnet program so we are a smaller learning environment even total of 368 students is just a smaller compared date of Paul Revere is a whole 122 kids in the sixth and about the same and 7th and 8th grade we are at science technology and math magnet do it depending upon the grade level and subject the classes do tend to range from anywhere lo22 the mid-30s couple of those pictures right there are from r u c l a project that we do with our sixth graders every year the UCLA engineering department come and work with our students on a building project culminating event takes place at your ceiling thank you so I am just offer free transportation to those who live beyond five miles from campus and they measure that as a straight line is crow flies is called what are the major differences is that the sixth grade program is taught as a single subject the same way it would be taught in 7th and 8th grade classes are right next door to each other so they don't have to venture vert Bardot magnet teachers do work in teams to better collaborate to make it seem as I'd mentioned science technology and math textbooks Caesar the things that are the same exact placement is the same as the Charter Way you share the same counseling department and said that criteria is all the same there's a little bit more high school choice with high school but they can also choose to attend any Magnet High School within the district and Sophie question that I always say I do you know my friends are in Charter or my friends are not getting so that's the reason they choose the program and will say you can't go wrong with either program both are phenomenal but the kids do come and go throughout the do they have the same nutrition time lunchtime they share the same elective classes they share the same PE classes so they will see each other throughout the day the major differences are going to be during The Core Curriculum classes English History math so if you are the application window always opens in October and closes in November so that application window for this coming year opened last October and closed last November but if you are interested in magnet for the future can apply this fall and goodnight good evening everybody my name is Mister Evans I am the assistant principal in the student services office we oversee a lot of the campus safety campus supervision as well as enforcing a lot of our policies we do want to bring your attention to a couple policies at Revere the very first thing that we always hear from parents and students is what is your cell phone policy we do have a very defined cell phone policy students are allowed to bring their cell phones to campus but when they enter campus in the morning their cell phone should be turned off and put in their backpack we do not allow cell phones out in the classroom or around campus students are not allowed to use them during lunch or nutrition so once your student arrives on campus they need to turn their cell phone off and put it in their backpack as soon as cell phone as soon as the day is over on the dismissal Bell Rings to you're allowed to take out their phones coordinate rides call their parents whatever the case may be but anytime a cell phone is visible or audible during the school day we do ask our teachers and school to confiscate the cell phone we do keep those in the main office and their Chieftain is secure location and they are not released until a parent signs for it and we only released cell phones on Friday afternoon so if you student has their phone out and it's confiscated you can come and sign for it at any point during the week but we only release them once they've been signed for on Friday after school or at lunch we do have a have a lot of things in our code of conduct we asked you review it in the student planner on page 7 we do know that we are waiting for the rest of our shipment of school planners so if you've already come to registration week or welcome back week and did not receive a planner we will be giving those out to students that did not receive them the first couple of days of the school year next week so when you do when your student does get that play please make sure that you review this the code of conduct with your student on page 7 while we don't have a defined school uniform we do have a School dress code we have a son things in that school dress code we do ask that you review that with your student parents you are our biggest Ally when it comes to him first forcing the School dress code a lot of you we understand that the trends of the day may change and we try to keep our policy enforced so make sure that you are looking over your students outfit before they leave the car in the morning and making sure that they are in dress code we do occasionally have students that are not in dress code is students are not in dress code we do ask him to change into clean PE clothing that we provide for them and then when they return that clothing then they can pick up whatever confiscated items from the off the student dress code can be found on Page 6 in the student planner so please make sure that you go over that again with your student when they received their planner last thing for me we do have a tardy policy of Paul Revere that really is two parts one morning arrival our day starts at 8 course campus opens at 7 your students have plenty of time to get there in the morning and they have places that they can go in the morning we bring our warning Bells at 7:50 to let students know that they need to start moving towards Earth and then students are considered tardy if they are not in her class and in their desk at 8 a.m. we do allow students to have three unexcused tardies for the year we understand it's all day we understand that there's traffic we understand that many of our students are traveling good distance to get to our school and we appreciate them attending so we do allow for 3 unexcused tardies but after 3 on it use Charlie's students will then start being assigned a lunch detention for being late in the morning during the school day we do run at least one tardy sweep each day for all of our new students we understand that it's a big campus and we need to find our way around so we do not start are tardy sweeps until after the first week of school we allow students to familiarize themselves with the campus and 5 classes in it and figure out their pass through campus after the first week we will start doing one announced Rd Suite a day at least if students are caught in a tardy sweep they will be asked to go down to the Sea Services office pick up a tardy pass and they will be assigned a lunch detention lunch detentions are served in the gym or in room in 3 at lunch students are allowed to eat lunch during that time and it's just kind of a quiet space from the rest of Campus so if you have any questions feel free to contact us in the student service office of course I'll be answering any questions that you might have done the presentation but we look forward to a good school year thank you it's me again so Paul Revere special education program so here is Paul Revere we have the RFP program we have the sld program and we have an alternate curriculum programs at Ivy program if your student has a B I please have them meet in front of the school near the main office I know it gets really at the beginning of the school year so if you do have a bii for your child have them meet right in the front by the main office additionally Miss Honda is our special education coordinator if you have any message regarding special education you can reach out to myself dr. Anthony or missed Honda tell everybody again my name is Justin chords one of the assistant principals in the attendance office I'm going to first explain some of our attendance procedures the district is really paying attention to attendance this year they stressed at our meetings before school year began that they want us to be very communicative and share our expectations with their family so please do your absolute best to make sure your child is at school every day for the entire day however if they are not well we definitely understand and would want them to stay at home to get better when a student is absent make sure that you let the school know the reason why we can then go into our system to excuse if it is due to the reasons that you could see here whether it's illness or anything related like a medical or dental appointment attending a funeral appearing in court or any religious reason the way you an excuse It Is by emailing adapare can send an email to Revere excused absence at gmail.com this is also posted on our website and just include the basic information your child's name and date of birth grade the dates they were asked and the reason that is probably the easiest way to make sure that we get the excuse the absence you can also send a hard copy letter where your child can drop it off in the attendance office and we can process it that way if you're out this is due to any other reasons or your tardies are due to any other reasons as an example traffic woke up late unfortunately the district does consider that unexcused and then that would impact their participation some activities on campus go ahead thank you for early pick up procedure if you know ahead of time that you have to pick up your child early by The Ritz for a doctor's appointment or sometimes some of our sporting events the easiest way to do it is to send a note this time it has to be a hard copy note we will not accept emailed your child will bring that note to the attendance office before school we will then process it them a blue pass that they will take with them and they can share it and show it to their teacher whenever they have to leave at that time as long as they remember to show the pass to their teacher they will be in the main office waiting for you if sometime it's at you're unable to plan ahead or doctors appointment opens up at the last minute and you need to get them right away you can go to the main office please bring photo ID how you can request your child it will a little bit of time for us to go up to the classroom get your child and bring them to you but that would be the way to do it make sure that anyone picking up your child is on your emergency card they have to be 18 years of older and have a valid photo ID if you are going to pick up a child at the very end of the day it is hectic at that time so please allow for a little additional time I'm especially if they're in PE next site says there were a couple questions about our our bell schedule we understand that we this is a different schedule than last year and some of our families have aired shared their displeasure with it some of our staff has said the displeasure we did not willingly choose just to change our schedule at the district over summer notified all schools that they are increasing the minimum required instructional minutes for middle school and so we now have the same instructional minutes as high schools so we were forced to increase the amount of time our students are in class we are also an Affiliated chart and so that means in our Charter we are required to have certain types of meetings with our staff and we sent out a couple versions of our bell schedule as we were changing them on because we had to accommodate and make sure that our bell schedule had the minimum number of instructional minutes in addition we had to make sure our Charter was being followed we cannot be in violation of it and so we now have our current bell schedule that we're going with it's shown here every Monday Wednesday Friday we are going to dismiss at 3:15 and every Tuesday and Thursday we will be dismissing it to 14 in addition to this we do have six minimum days throughout the year those are on our calendar that also on the bell schedule that you received this week dream welcome back week but again we understand that this changes at the last minute creates a lot of problems for you it affects after activities and impacts our staff as well they have families as well and it does even 10-15 minutes of a  a lot with traffic and so we apologize but this is something that we were kind of forced to do with the changes instructional minutes so thank you for making the best of it and you know we're on the same book are there was a question about if you want to see a map of best places to drop off and pick up so this is the map of our will you do not really need that see how the classroom but it's a very bottom on allenford Avenue that you'll see that like a semicircle this is our horseshoe driveway in front of the school at least in turn main office is it is one way so the arrow is going in the One Direction that is one place to drop off at the front of school you would turn in from allenford drop your child off and then you would exit Allen Ford at the light the other place to safely drop off your children is along our West driveway just a little bit further to the left on this map you would enter our West driveway from allenford it is one way and there will be a couple of designated areas where you can safely drop off your child and then you would proceed up the West driveway past our PA area and you would exit campus on to sunset at that light we do ask that wherever whichever option you pick if you're dropping off a car older kids as you're getting close make sure your kids are ready to get out there's a long line traffic is really bad in the morning if they're ready so as soon as you pull up and stop they get out quickly you've already said your goodbyes it really does help if every car is that 10 or 15 extra seconds it adds a lot to the traffic so please do your part in ensuring that our our kids can get dropped off quickly and make it to class on time I'm at those would be the two best areas to drop off your children are horseshoe driveway or are West driveway at pick up these two areas will be blocked off because we have buses on our West driveway and we also have public buses along the Horseshoe and kids will be run to get to the buses about 10 to 15 minutes after our dismissal time we will open up both of these driveway so you can pull in in the same direction I'm to pick up your kids I would recommend if I'm time is not so crucial give your kid 15-20 minutes let him wait in the covered eating area which is by a cafeteria and then tell him I'll just come by once all the traffic is kind of dissipated do that that would be the best option our parents buses how much is we have like 8 or 9 of them this year I really does help reduce traffic they will be dropping off and picking up along the west driveway behind the auditorium and are LAUSD buses will be picking up in Archer vacation area which is further up the West driveway in the transportation area I'm if you have any questions if your child supposed to be routed with LAUSD buses please feel free to email me if you have not heard from them or you can call 800lx any questions regarding the parent chartered buses you could email send it email to that the actress that's posted there please for the first 2 weeks if you haven't heard her messaging because our bell schedule did change at the law minute the Metro buses are usually waiting for a kids at dismissal however the first two weeks they may not be a line to our schedule and so it may be awhile for a kid to have to wait or they made those that can get to the buses very quickly can possibly get on the buses if they do not make it on the Metro buses in the front of school for the first two weeks you can let him know there are bus stops along sunset but I would recommend that you look at the bus stops to make sure you're comfortable with your child waiting there it is along a major Street and there will be a lot of students at those bus stops my beginning August 28th we should have Metrobus line with our our dismissal schedule next slide there was a question about the personal enrichment program or after school activities we have Beyond the Bell which is a district program it's kind of like unstructured but supervised activities every school day from dismissal until 6 p.m. we have homework help club which will start about five weeks into the semester and that's like after tutoring and then we have our personal enrichment program or call Pat Adele have activities in Richmond classes and our competitive an intramural sport the activities are free for beyond the bell and homework help Club but Pap does charge a fee for Pep activities you could register at the website at the bottom there at Revere pep. Org and then lastly there is a sixth grade overnight trip registration for that will open August 14th this year we're only able to take sixth grade any questions with that you could contact I will pass over to mr. shibata tiger evening bring somebody here I'm not going to going to start up my videos and driving I'm on the 405 but Cecilia are 7th grade counselors going to be miscarriage during the 8th grade counselor position for a while miss Tyler Butler she's going to be on the bill so have our bsap counselor Miss Brenda PT and our wonderful psew Anna Riley you have an amazing staff support to students and families so please reach inside please the first and foremost just want to get this one out of the way as your schedule start to pop up and if you start students are staying the schedules and schoology please know that you're not going to be final in Celsius play night at midnight so Monday morning when you wake up those schedules are final August 14th I'm so please know that up until then we are still making sure that we have the writing numbers it's an Auburn classes and making sure that the new enrollees that we do receive so we are still making some adjustments Monday the first day of school we're not going to be able to accommodate teacher2teacher schedule change request it's just too hard to do that also elective elective choices and where you can place an elected is going to be based on your if she requests space availability do you have any questions about their schedule they can they can feel free to fill out a counselor request request form those are outside of the counseling office academic prioritize over affect the request so just please be really patient as we get through those were also involved in these students if a student does submit a teacher to teacher request it's not going to Studio soccer be called so please do not make any request because nothing to do about that so what did I get one of the counselors do their basic role on campus is to provide social emotional and academic support parents then I put social emotional first because that is our main goal of being a social emotional pieces that's affecting the series and so we will be working with students and parents feel free to reach out if your child has had some concerns about your well-being and we would love to be able to support it's for your student if you do you have any academic concerns do you want you to reach out to the teachers first they are the they will be able to answer your questions in class regarding homework or projects or whatever is going on in class if you ask the counselor about an academic question or something that's going on in the classroom we are going to tell tell you to reach out to the teacher so we got the teacher first and she still having some questions about something then go ahead and contact the counselor some other General do you spell accounting office desk cover I take care of all the icons on canvas blocks and cables for parents so any parents you were having some problems issue accessing School you please reach out to me email me is probably the best thing to do if you received a yellow paper at our welcome back we come please use that information for you to login to Schoology the Council Office does run all the home assembly during the school year again we do the class scheduling and last but not least I'm so Justin Sisson accounting office before we close out today number one stay grounded for those of you that are in 6th grade this is a three-year Journey so our goal by the end of by the end of your time on your part there is one your child has a good study skills never to they need to be able to take good notes and three they need to be able to have conversations with adults in their Pearson I doubt during lunch and learn how to be excited about coming to school definitely reach out counting Office Accounts are we were more than happy to help you and talk and talk to you with you and your child homework students staying on top of the homework and the quality of work that they but I can't express enough the quality of work are your kids showing all the steps in that are they look and not just some cliff notes or watching a movie the quality work that a student produces and how much effort you put into it and that goes a long way schoology parents check it weekly if you are checking it daily you're going to drive yourself nuts check it with me because some teachers don't post homework this that the day that is assigned because they want students to write it down so just got to know that that's kind of how it works but will he want to check their grades homework a lot of times the teachers are writing notes or comments regarding all Market a store project has carefully have conversations with you about those things and if that's not helping ourselves some questions another view step don't wait till November or don't wait until May to reach out to your teacher if you think you're not getting report cards are reports Which accounting office cuz maybe somebody's intercepting them but also if you think it's going to get better and it's not getting better don't wait until November don't wait till May reach out to the teachers early be proactive they contact have conversations figure out what are some ways you can have your kid what's what maybe is a teacher seeing in class that maybe you can support the teacher and the teacher does meted out to you they're definitely trying to tell you something for whatever it is you're trying to tell you about the lost and found write your name on the PE clothes are so many PE clothes they get lost because you just don't know that it's their clothes anymore first name last name is is fine but make sure you write it on the stance and the top cuz this Karen investing a lot of money in in PT Post 25 most parents have two sets by the end of the school year so please write your names on those things you may want to make sure that is the name on lunch bags clothes water bottles we through we have to throw away everyone at the end of every month about 50 water bottles because there's no name on it and kids aren't claiming it kind of goes to our last bowl of one here that 99% of the items that your child cannot find they're not stolen airlock nobody's going to steal your child's lunch bag and use it for themselves and their water bottle take it home and wash it and use it for themselves they're not going to steal somebody dirty PE clothes and use it for themselves are not going to do it because it's just they're not going to do it tells you that I got stolen it's not stolen it's in the lost and found and lost and found at a town hall in at the end of every month we have to get rid of all the lost and found items some of the we donate some of we have to throw away and it's heartbreaking for us to have to do that so please know that the end the end of every there are a lot of things in the lost and found so please come home or PE clothes come home water bottle lunch bag you name it if it doesn't come home it's in the lost and found please make sure you label those items it makes it easier for your kids to find at the end of the month when we do so stuff away even if it has a name on it we're not tracking down your kid it's so much work and there's so many can I track down kids for the lost and found okay so you got a lot of info Haitian this will also be posted on our website so you'll have access to the Flies we have answered all the questions in the chat I'd like to read one thing and says hello from Palisades Park library or library is open until 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and we have after-school programs for students as well so if anyone is looking for after school support for there Palisades Public Library is open until 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday the first day of school is August the first day of school is August 14th secondly school supplies on the first day of school for student will need maybe a notebook and paper they should bring their green bright green personalization regenda planner that they received so again pencil paper notebook something to write on their agenda planner and their bright green personalization paper and Thursday leave your textbooks at home the first day of school and even maybe the second and third day of school left until the teachers tell you to bring it we're going to be handing out lockers to students probably on Wednesday or Thursday of the first week and then if you are going to purchase textbooks hold off on purchasing textbooks just in case the teachers tell you to keep a book at home and then you don't need to have that extra set and that's it so there is a couple more questions can do kids go to all of their classes first day yes they do also we have how do I sign up a second student on schoology please reach out to the counseling office mr. shabadaba schoology question one more question can you explain why there why there are two bus drop off hours for the parent sponsor please reach out to more Evo go with your questions regarding the parents sponsor buses I believe
